1. To create a new project, log in to the Monash SeRP Projects & Datasets Portal (https://serp-portal.erc.monash.edu)

Please Note: Monash VPN is required to access the Monash SeRP Projects & Datasets Portal.


2. Navigate to the Security > Projects page. 


3. To create a sub-project, ensure the correct project is selected in the navigation menu, then select 'Create New Sub Project'



4. Provide all the necessary information in the require project information fields (Name of Project, Project Start/End Date, etc)

Rule 1: Project names must follow a specific rule when being created. All project names should begin with a designated 'prefix' as assigned to your project. This will be the same name as the 'parent' project name.

In the example shown below, the parent project is titled 'votor' and all sub projects are created with the same prefix. ie. votor_projectname


To ensure your project's designated VDI's are accessible to each new subproject, it is necessary to include an underscore after the prefix of the 'parent' project name, i.e. votor_project1, votor_project2, votor_project3, votor_project4 etc. 


Rule 2: Project names are limited to 20 lower case characters. Please note, only lower cases letters, numbers and underscores can be used.

Rule 3: Short Name of Project is limited to 15 characters. Please note, only upper and lower cases letters, numbers, underscores and dashes can be used.

Rule 4: Full Name of Project has no charcter limit however a maximum of 25 is recommended. Please note, only upper and lower cases letters, numbers, underscores and dashes can be used.


Mandatory Fields:

- Name of Project
- Project Start Date
- Project End Date
- Description


Optional Fields:


- Short Name of Project (will add extension to the project name within the menu system of the Security 3 Portal)

- Full Name of Project (will create an extension to the folder name so you can display a detailed project name)




5. Add associated users to each role as appropriate.

For example, to add a user to the 'Analyst' role, select 'Analyst' then select 'Add User to Role'


Search for the relevant user by using their Monash ID or email address. Once all users have been added to the associated role. The page can be closed.

6. Monash SeRP will automatically generate project groups via groupadmin.monash.edu. This will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete. Once this process has been completed, the new project will be ready for use within Monash SeRP.
